Stabenow, Levin Announce Grant for Jackson to Hire New Firefighters

WASHINGTON- U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin today announced recruitment, hiring and retention support for the City of Jackson Fire Department. The grant comes through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program – Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER).
Senator Stabenow said, “Our firefighters provide invaluable service to Jackson, and they deserve the best resources available to protect our families. Through this grant, Michigan’s fire departments will be able to hire more brave men and women to keep our communities safe.”
Senator Levin said, “It is vital to our communities that they have qualified, trained personnel on hand to protect residents from fire and other emergencies. These grants help accomplish that vital goal.”
The Jackson Fire Department will receive $1,875,156 to hire new firefighters and help retain current first responders.
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program – Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) is intended to support the hiring of firefighters and the recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters.
